Automate mundane award-related tasks effortlessly with formula fields

by | Feb 20, 2023 | Feature focus

Please note: This feature is currently in open beta and is available on all Pro or Enterprise plans.

Using the formula field, program managers can build formulas to calculate, format or transform information provided by entrants on an entry form.

The formula field supports all common formulas and functions found in dedicated spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets. This means you’ll have the ability to do everything from cleaning or standardising data to performing complex financial, statistical and mathematical operations.

Simply add a formula field to the entry form builder, configure the field with the formula or function you’d like to use and Award Force will automatically apply your formula to an entrant’s response(s).

You can choose to disclose the result of the formula to your entrants or hide the result altogether. Perfect for all kinds of scenarios.

The formula used can reference one or more entry fields at the same time and is well suited to both simple and complex operations.

Here are two more examples of formulas at work:

Formatting text into proper case

Want to format names to all use the same case? You can apply the same functions found in spreadsheets to make that happen. For example, use the “Proper” function to make names appear with the appropriate capitalisation: proper({field}).

Determine the percent of profit

Say your awards are collecting information about the commercial success of an entry and profit margin % is an important part of evaluating that success. Instead of getting your entrants to calculate the profit percentage, you could ask for costs and earnings and let the system do it for you and minimise potential human error.

Here we have three fields, one with earnings and two with costs:

To get the profit margin percentage, we include a calculation to get the profit and then calculate the margin, all in one formula!

An awards process that’s all in one place!

Previously I’ve worked on awards processes without an awards management system and I can’t believe how much time we wasted! The streamlining of the process has freed up so much time and I am confident nothing will slip through the net with use error. Great platform. Read the full customer review here.

There are many improvements planned for this new formula field, including a formula field helper, but we’ve released it in beta so you can start using of it straight away. Let us know what you think!
