“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” Helen Keller
The words and inspiration from Helen Keller ring truer than ever today, on GivingTuesday, as people across the globe come together to do good.
The international movement of GivingTuesday reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and generosity. It’s arguably our favorite day of the year at Award Force, one where we stop and give time and financial resources to our own unique communities across the globe.
As a fully remote, globally distributed company, we are often focused on the world around us, providing our awards software to help people across the globe recognise excellence. So that makes GivingTuesday the perfect day for us to focus on issues close to home.
While we champion sustainability and Pledge 1% initiatives year-round through our parent company, Creative Force, GivingTuesday is a day when we support causes dear to our hearts within our own communities.
No act of generosity is too small!
Here is just a sampling of the ways our team gave back this year.
Diya (client success)England
Diya and her partner have started visiting a 93-year-old woman who has no family and lives by herself, as part of a community initiative to help the isolated elderly. “My partner and I took her out on the weekend to get the COVID booster, a bit of make-up shopping (!) and coffee. She hadn’t been out in two years and was ever so grateful.” ❤️
Roxana (marketing)Romania
Roxana and her daughter joined a local mission to plant 2 million trees! “My daughter and I went on Saturday and planted trees as part of a big annual initiative in Romania. A local charity sponsored by many companies organised the event. My 5-year-old loved it and she was so proud of her accomplishment. She told her grandpa: ‘You know what I did yesterday? I planted trees so we can breathe fresh air!’” 🌳❤️
Narelle (sales)Ecuador
Narelle, our resident digital nomad, was recently working from Ecuador, where she connected with some volunteers at a local primary school in the neighbourhood where she stayed.
“The school is very under resourced so I asked if there was something Creative Force could help with.
They needed a new whiteboard with wheels so the teacher could move it between the groups of students they teach to replace the stained and damaged one they have at the school.”
Leny (operations)Philippines
“Pinoy inventor Dado Banatao (credited with having developed key chips used in most computers today) used to walk barefoot to school along dirt roads when he was a kid. These days, slippers are the usual/daily footwear of Pinoys. Yesterday, we visited the indigenous tribe Ayta Magbukon of Bataan and distributed slippers to local folks and kids. Who knows, someday one of them will be a great inventor too.”
Rachel M. (product)Scotland
“I did some guerilla tree planting and planted four native trees: elder, hazel, blackthorn, and crab apple. I chose a fruit and nut pack which means all four trees will produce food for humans and animals in years to come – elderberries, hazelnuts, apples and sloe berries.”
Kanishka (engineering)Sri Lanka
Kanishka and his friends gave grocery items to 40 struggling families in Sri Lanka.
Lindsay (marketing)Hungary
Lindsay joined a local chapter of Food Not Bombs to collect vegetables about to be trashed by the local markets and helped prepare vegetarian meals for local people in need.
In addition to the above activities, Creative Force also donated more than AUD $11,000 in November to the following:
